Fighting Headaches with Aromatherapy

Three are so many different methods of headache pain control. Wouldn’t it be better if you were able to use natural means to curb your headache pain?  The answer, obviously, is yes. Especially for people who must deal with headache as a part of their ongoing lives.  Some people will have a headache a year, others a headache almost daily. Its those people who would be better off if they could stop using over the counter pain relievers and find some other method to control their headache pain.

One of the most popular, and successful, natural headache remedies has to be aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils. It has been practiced for thousands of years. The liquids are distilled from plant materials to encourage better health as well as a feeling of wellbeing. You can use them by a variety of means including massage or by inhaling them.  Make sure when you purchase your essential oils that they are pure.  Headaches can be helped by the use of lavender, peppermint, sandalwood or eucalyptus. There are combinations of these that also work very well, but you must have the exact right recipes, know how much of each to add so that the combination is safe and useful.  The best place to find this information is on the Internet or in the library. Essential oils are an inexpensive method of dealing with headache pain. They can be purchased at your local health store.

There are a few methods by which you use the essential oils to help with your headache. One way is to put two drops of lavender on each temple and rest. Many people find that in around twenty minutes their headache is gone.  Another method using lavender is to take a facecloth and make it into a compress by putting it in water, warm or cold as you prefer, having added five drops of lavender to the water first. Use the compress on either your neck or your forehead while resting.

There are other methods of using aromatherapy for your headache. You can use a diffuser. This puts the scent into the air. You can use it for about fifteen to twenty minutes at a time. Or you can relax in a bath of essential oils. You add around eight drops of the essential oil plus a teaspoon of unscented bath oil.  The other alternative is to use the aromatherapy by inhaling it. You put some in a bowl of hot water then lean over the bowl, covering your head with a cloth, closing your eyes, and inhaling the calming scent. This should be done for five minutes to help get rid of the headache.  This is not recommended for someone with a respiratory condition like asthma.

The essential oil from ginger is useful in fighting the nausea of migraine headaches.  If you are going to try these natural methods research carefully on how much you should use. Even something natural must be used in moderation.
