How common are headaches?

Everybody in the world has headaches, 40 and 50 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches. Headaches are known as the most common reason for people missing work or school. Although there are some people who go to work or school even though they have a headache, some people take it better than others, some simply suffer through it other do not it all depends on the person and how sever their headache is and how much they can stand. 

Can headaches be a symptom of some serious disease?

It is known in some medical studies that a headache can be caused by a bleeding, tumor, or infection inside the skull. There are often times it is caused by a disease in the teeth or jaw bone. Flu like symptoms or any other kind of sickness that tends to cause fever can also cause headache. This kind of headache is called a secondary headache because it is due to other problems. There are also other types of headaches that millions of people go to the doctor for each year. Headaches such as primary headache, migraine, "tension-type headache," and cluster headache.  For this people the headache itself is the primary problem and not just a symptom of some other disease. Chronic headache can be very serious because it can interfere with the quality of daily life. To some people it may not seem like a very big problem but it is a biological disorder, and is as real as diabetes, arthritis, or heart disease, and deserves the same attention as any of the other illnesses listed here. There are a few headache types should be cause for you to worry and seek medical attention. If you have a sudden headache that is very severe and different from any other headache you've had before or if a headache seems to get worse instead of getting better you should see your doctor right away. If you have a headache with fever and stiff neck, Headache that lasts for more than a week following a head injury should also be checked right away. If you have had a head injury that did not seem severe at the time but persisted in you having a headache for a week or more go see your doctor right away or go to your local emergency room. If the headache is followed by symptoms such as disturbed vision or speech, numbness or weakness in one part of the body, blackouts, or difficulty thinking and remembering. Go to your local emergency room right away and ask to be check with an MRI to check for any head trauma. None of these symptoms is a sure sign of life-threatening illness, but you'll feel relieved having them checked out. If you do have something seriously wrong, it is better to have it checked out early so that there is a chance that it can be caught in time and treated properly.

Is there any treatment for headaches?

When headaches happen more than 3 times a month, your doctor will usually recommend medication that will prevent it. Medication such as drug therapy, stress reduction. He may also recommend that you not eat certain foods that will cause you to have a headache.  He will also tell you to get regular exercise, such as swimming or walking, this will help to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine headaches.  The following are a few headache treatments that are usually tired.

Acute medications:

This medication is used to treat a headache once it has began. These medications may be used as soon as the headache begins or taken after you feel the pain too bad.

Preventive therapies are used daily to prevent an attack or reduce an attack. Medications and no pharmacologic therapies are also used. Therapies such as behavioral therapies and physical therapies may help prevent headaches in some people.

Rescue medications are used after acute medications have failed. Most rescue medications can be given at home. Some rescue medications cause drowsiness as a side effect. For some sufferers, this may help you to sleep that can be helpful for seeking pain relief during the night. If you take this medications in the day be careful when driving or doing anything that will need you to be alert.
