Headache Remedy: Different Strokes for Different Folks

There are believed to be as many as forty five million Americans that have suffered some form of headache or the other and they have found it necessary to visit their doctors to find a headache remedy. A number of different headache remedies have been found effective and they are being prescribed to patients suffering from all sorts of headaches, be they severe headaches, tension headaches or chronic headaches.

When a person suffers from a headache, his or her urine alkalinity becomes rather high and to bring the body's pH back to normal, a headache remedy useful in such cases is to take a few tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water. After this, test the pH using pH test strips until the level returns back to normal.

Another headache remedy is to use eucalyptus oil along with carrier oil and then massage the forehead. For tension headaches, you could try sniffing eucalyptus oil which may be poured on a handkerchief.

Natural Cures

For meningitis and menstrual or cluster headaches, chewing some leaves of (bitter) feverfew is another headache remedy worth trying out. In case you prefer not to chew the leaves there is also the possibility of buying a tincture or health capsule from a health food store. Feverfew works similarly to aspirin because it inhibits the inflammation substances from being released which are considered as being the major cause of migraine attacks.

Ginger is a useful headache remedy as too is honey. Ginger can be used to avert the release of substances that cause the blood vessels to expand, while honey prevents tension of the arteries to allow better flow of blood to the brain.

Amongst oils that are used as headache remedies are lavender oil, peppermint oil and rosemary oil. These can be rubbed on the forehead, temples or on the neck and the soothing effect will help alleviate the pain. There are also menthol preparations which can soothe the headache and massaging the temple with it will greatly relax the temporal muscles; this is especially useful to cure tension headaches.

A person may also find a headache remedy in taking lithium salts which can cure cluster headaches, or drink peppermint tea to alleviate headaches. When a person feels that the onset of a headache is imminent, the best remedy for it is to take a walk which will help to increase the circulation of the blood as well as send more oxygen to the brain and thus cure the headache.
