Each year, increasing numbers of people around the world are becoming overweight; there are now large numbers of children just starting school that have a weight problem. Some people go to extreme lengths to change this situation for example with surgery; the most productive method is by exercising more frequently and changing what you eat. Impatience to see results usually means that overweight people can frequently resort to using weight loss drugs to achieve that fast result they crave.
These drugs work in a variety of ways but mainly they try to fool the brain into thinking the stomach is full and increase the person’s metabolism. The problem arose when it was found that one of the side effects from this type of drug was the increased risk of heart valve disease and of course the drug was quickly withdrawn from use. More recently, new drugs have been developed and prescribed by doctors; many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.
You may in fact know someone who has used these pills at some time and has first hand experience of how effective they can be. This is obviously a very tempting prospect, to lose weight whilst eating the same diet. As a result of this, consumers everywhere have spent untold millions on these supposed wonderful weight loss drugs.
Despite the advances in weight control pills there are still health problems, some of which people are sickness and diarrhea. But they are not the only side effects and some can be more harmful than others. These include heart attacks, tremors, strokes, hallucinations and renal failure.
Of course, many factors can affect the type and severity of problems like family history, weight, age and lifestyle; this is why it is so important to see the doctor before starting a course of pills; should you decide to stop taking the treatment, other side effects can occur as a result. Problems like depression, nausea, bad mood swings, nightmares, insomnia for example have all been reported when a person has stopped taking the weight control pills.
Many clinical tests will show that the weight loss drugs taken to reduce weight really work but this can only be done in conjunction with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan. This type of diet requires a balance of the food groups to ensure a proper intake of vitamins, minerals and fiber, almost all of which can be bought at your local supermarket but may require a little preparation.
Exercising will need to be carried out if you want to benefit from the healthy food option but this probably needs to be worked out in advance with your physician. Of course a good exercise regime will combine exercises that increase the heart rate and exercises that use weights to tone the muscles. A regime of this kind would increase an individual’s metabolic rate.
